Event: SPUR Young Urbanist Present: An Evening with TechShop

The San Francisco Planning & Urban Research Association will present an exciting evening on the future of manufacturing in the Bay Area as we hear from Allison Arieff, New York Times contributor and Urbanist editor, Lewis Knight from Gensler, and others about new trends in local manufacturing and the role of TechShop in continuing the Bay Area's manufacturing legacy. You will also have the chance to etch a custom design into everyone's favorite beverage receptable — the pint glass.

Allison Arieff
Allison Arieff writes and consults about architecture, design, sustainability and food. She is the former editor in chief of Dwell Magazine, co-author of the books "Prefab" and "Trailer Travel," and the editor of numerous books on design and culture, including "Airstream: The History of the Land Yacht" and "Cheap Hotels." She lives in San Francisco.

Lewis Knight
Lewis Knight is Director of Urban Design at Gensler, San Francisco. Lewis dedicates himself to creating great spaces, both public and private. He has written about the ongoing metamorphosis of our cities and seeks to find the poetry in the rhythms of an ever-changing urban landscape. Lewis sees the greatest opportunities in an integrated approach between urban design, planning, architecture, and landscape; in this fusing of disciplines, he finds approaches to urban life and sustainability that are inspiring, dynamic, and marked by hopefulness for the future.

TechShop is a membership-based workshop that provides access to tools and equipment, instruction, and a community of creative and supportive people so members can build the things they have always wanted to make.
