Kralingen Mountain feasibility study by MVRDV

MVRDV, Blauwhoed, Dura Vermeer, Syntrus, Achmea Vastgoed, Eneco and Arup presented the new phase of feasibility study concerning the construction of Rotterdam Mountain, located in Kralingse Berg. MVRDV unveils this new phase accompanied with this short presentation:

The project envisions a new leafy neighbourhood by covering a 1.7km long stretch of infrastructure including Rotterdams orbital and reconnecting areas of natural beauty. An area of 166 ha urban wasteland will be transformed for housing and nature. 4500 homes can be constructed on site, as well as services, offices, sports and public facilities. The orbital will be covered by a 1,7km long glass roof.

The project stands for a green and sustainability neighbourhood which offers space for offices, sport and education. According to Jan de Mooij, regional director of Blauwhoed, the project will offer Rotterdam the necessary growth in hosing for higher incomes and a substantial amount of new recreational and public space.

The project is privately initiated and financed and is envisioned to be realized without public funding. City councilor Hamit Karakus is enthusiastic about the plan, both the private funding and the impact on the city are fully in line with Rotterdams policies regarding new construction projects.

He supports strongly the further densification of the city.
