Evelyn Grace Academy by Zaha Hadid Architects

Zaha Hadid Architects just completed its first project in England. The Evelyn and Grace Academy, located in Brixton, is an open, transparent and welcoming building. The Evelyn and Grace Academy is based on the educational principle of smaller 'schools-within-schools'. This 10745 square-meter building is designed for 1200 pupils and articulates the Evelyn and Grace Middle Schools housing 270 pupils and Evelyn and Grace Upper Schools housing 330 pupils, both per school.
These four schools are functional. The spaces present generous environments with maximum levels of natural light, ventilation and understated but durable texture. Focused on the concept of "collectivity" and "communication", the collective spaces are shared by all schools in order to encourage and facilitate social communication within each school and eliminate problematic zones that require supervision.
